Today, June 21, the first non-governmental rocket ship flew to the edge of space and landed safely on a desert airport runway today. The rocket flew to 100 kilometers in altitude before landing in the Mojave airport. During the flight, the pilot heard a bang, and the left rear landing gear appeared to be damaged. The rocket was built by Scaled Composites, which says that the flight will ?demonstrate that the space frontier is finally open to private enterprise. SpaceShipOne will compete for the $10 million Ansari X Prize.
