On June 21, SpaceShipOne will be launched over the Mojave desert. It will be the first non-government funded manned spaceship to exit the Earth?s atmosphere. It is built by Scaled Composites of Mojave, California. It is competing for the $10 million Ansari X prize. This mission might make space travel a commercial enterprise. People would be able to travel from New York to Tokyo in one hour. Others think that it will not inspire any major advances in the public transportation industry. The SpaceShipOne is considered by some to be way after its time. They think a similar government project should have been performed two decades ago. There is also the fact that space travel would be extremely expensive and few people could afford it. Also, the SpaceShipOne flight could be considered a stunt instead of a historical milestone. Opinions are mixed about the SpaceShipOne.
